a weekend of firsts

This was a weekend of firsts for Sophia. Her 'weekend' actually started Thursday night with the first swim of the season. We headed over to Uncle Cliff's house to take advantage of their pool. Sophia loves the water and is getting more and more comfortable with 'jumping' in...

The fun continued on Friday. Sophia did go to school for a little while Friday morning to give Daddy time to mow the grass and for her therapist to come do some therapy at school. However, Sophia got out of school early for a very special date with Daddy...a trip to see her first ever movie in a movie theater - Toy Story 3!

She loves the first two movies, so we've been waiting for this one to be released to see if she would do okay. With a little help from Aunt Susie, who went along, I think she made it pretty well, though I hear the 3D glasses were a bit of a challenge.

Saturday held on of the biggest firsts of all...her first haircut!! We took her to the salon where I go, and the owner, who is my stylist, cut her hair. Here is the 'before' photo...

Before the cutting commenced, we had a little discussion about how it should be cut, including a discussion about bangs...

Sophia did really well sitting in the booster seat all by herself...

After we decided how her hair would be cut (ok...trimmed), Ms. Tina broke out the squirt bottle...

...and began cutting...

We did decide bangs would be appropriate in part because her hair is naturally shorter in the front, and in part to help keep it out of her face. Sophia watched the action in the mirror in front of her...

At times, Sophia seemed disinterested in what was going on. Other times it appeared she was thinking, "What are you doing to my hair?"...

After a few minutes, the new cut was really shaping up...

And...after! She has sweet bangs, and the back is more even! We even managed to salvage some curls, which will help keep us from getting into trouble with the grandmothers;)

I'm really proud of Sophia. She sat up in the chair and didn't fuss or cry one time! The stylist couldn't believe how well she was behaving. Over all, I think this cut took less than 15 minutes. I think I'll let it grow for a while now.

Tomorrow is Father's Day. Happy Father's Day to Toby and to my daddy...two of the best daddies in the world!
