I'm thankful for..

..progress!

Sophia has had just shy of 20 physical therapy sessions now. We've worked on everything from opening her fist, to grabbing items, to transferring items from one hand to the other. We've also worked on sitting up and rolling over. She can sit pretty well now, though still takes a tumble if she leans too far over. A few weeks ago, she began to be able to roll from her stomach to her back, in one direction. We've been working to get her to roll the other direction, as well as to roll from her back to her stomach. Well, our wish has been granted. The kid is now a rolling fiend. Oh, she starts out contented enough - on her back or her stomach, playing with her toes or some other toy of interest....

but, then she starts rolling. Back to stomach. Stomach to back. Back to stomach. Over and over again...

She will roll completely off of her nice comfortable pallet, onto the hardwood floors, and will continue on this course until interrupted. Usually by a piece of large furniture...

at which point she will settle back in the original position and wait for some well-trained adult to come and move her back to the starting position. Then, the game continues!

I'm thankful that she is making progress in her motor skills development. She works really hard in therapy, even though I know she'd prefer not to have to do it. I'm really proud of how far she's come. Some days it's hard to see some of the other kids at day care who are Sophia's age who are crawling, sitting with ease, and even pulling up. I just have to remind myself that Sophia didn't get to stay in the 'oven' as long as those other babies. She just needs a little extra time and help developing all her fancy skills. She'll get there....
