9 months!

Sophia officially turned nine months old September 27. However, we just had her nine month check-up with the pediatrician Friday. Thought we'd share the stats and fill you in on Sophia's life at nine months...

Weight: 17 lbs 14 oz
Length: 26.65 inches

The doctor said these numbers are fine. Her rate of growth has slowed, but that's normal, particularly because she's more active. Sophia has physical therapy twice a week to work on catching up with some of the her motor skills. Right now we're working on sitting unassisted. She can do this relatively well, but preemies normally develop the reflex to catch themselves late. Thus, when she starts to tilt sideways or backward, she doesn't try to catch herself. We're working on that! Sophia can now roll from her stomach to her back, but we're not quite there going the other direction. She can get onto her side, but not all the way over. We're practicing scooting, which will be a precursor to crawling. Sophia can now 'clap' her hands and is babbling more and more each day. No words, yet, but lots of new sounds.

Sophia is a good eater. Her current diet (baby food) consists of carrots, squash, peas, green beans, sweet potatoes, corn, rice, prunes, pears, peaches, blueberries, apricots, apples, applesauce, chicken, and turkey. Pretty much all of the first and second foods. We probably won't introduce 3rd foods yet, at the pediatrician's recommendation. Sophia does eat some table food including yogurt. She loves fresh fruit. In fact, just this afternoon, Grandma Jean and Grandad Tobe picked a pear right off the tree, peeled it a bit, and Sophia held on to it with both hands and gnawed on it a bit. Also, the kid likes persimmons! Who knew?! Anyway, pretty much anything we give her she likes. Except for green beans. Not so much. Gotta work on that!

I can't believe she's been here with us for nine months already. It's fall, and Halloween is just around the corner. Before we know it, the holiday season will be upon us, and I'll have the very important task of planning a big first birthday party.

Below is a proof of some photos I had taken for Sophia's nine month birthday. I'll have the rest this Thursday, and will post some more. Does she look like a Slinkard, or what?
