...and she's right. The future is green. Here are a few ways the Slinkard household is trying to be more environmentally friendly and reduce our carbon footprint.
We are trying to reduce our waste, but with a baby in the house, that isn't always easy. We definitely recycle, usually filling our two bins in a week's time. I also recommend shopping for vintage/thrifted items, rather than always buying new!
Go Green with your shopping - take along a reusable shopping bag (or five if you're going to Wal-Mart)! I have some like the one in this photo, as well as the black ones you can buy for a buck at Wally World. I highly recommend then. I like not having a mountain of white plastic bags in the bottom of my pantry:)
See the Light - Compact fluorescent light bulbs, or CFLs, use about a third of the energy of regular bulbs and last up to 10 years. We use these in our house and love them!
Think before you drink. At least think about what you're drinking out of. Get a reusable water bottle/jug rather than always buying bottled water. Although plastic water bottles can be recycled, millions still end up in landfills every year. Get yourself a nice water filter and save money and the planet!
Beat the heat (and the utility bill) -
Get a programable thermostat to optimize energy usage. Also, think about using alternatives to air conditioners like ceiling fans, table top fans, attic fans, etc.
Okay, enough soap box lecturing! See you next post...
